Intermediate Care Facility
Overview
The Intermediate Care Facility for other Related Conditions (ICF / ORC) of Erie Independence House was established in 1992 as an alternative to institutional care. It is one of only two ICF /ORC's in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. It is designed to offer a family-like setting while promoting independence. The primary purpose of the ICF / ORC is to provide a continuous and ongoing array of Health and/ or Rehabilitation Services for consumers with Other Related Conditions. The facility consists of six (6) individual bedrooms with comfortable fully wheelchair accessible common areas, and on-call nursing 24 hours per day 7 days per week.
Examples of Other Related Conditions include: Individuals with paraplegia or quadriplegia (due to spinal cord injuries), spina bifida, cerebral palsy, epilepsy, seizure disorder, autism, Tourette's Syndrome, meningitis, encephalitis, hydrocephalus, multiple sclerosis, polio and anoxic brain damage.
